When you think of glass shower doors, one of two things probably comes to mind. If you've seen a lot of dirty glass doors in your day, you might picture a cloudy, dirt-streaked door. If you've mostly seen clean, new shower doors, you may picture a pristine door made from clear glass. Obviously, you want your own glass shower doors to look like the second image. So, how do you go about keeping your glass shower doors so perfectly clean?
Wipe the doors down after showering.
Often, it is the water that leaves streaks on the shower door. Minerals settle out of the water and accumulate on the door's surface. If you dry the shower doors off after each shower, then you will get a lot less streaking. The best thing to use for this purpose is a microfiber cloth. These cloths are known to be very absorbent, and yet they are soft enough not to scratch the door.
Angle the shower head away from the door.
When you do take a shower, make sure the shower head is angled in such a way that the water does not flow down the glass door as you're showering. The less water your door is exposed to, the better. If your shower head is placed in a way that makes this difficult, consider having a plumber or building contractor move the shower head or change its angle.
Use a cleaner that removes limescale and mineral deposits.
Clean your shower door often. If you have several people in your home showering daily, then you should clean your shower door at least once a week. Use a cleaner that is known to remove mineral deposits, as that is what causes most of the streaking on shower doors. Follow the directions on the label for best results. In most cases, you will need to apply the cleaner, wait a few minutes, and then wipe the cleaner away.
Switch to a body wash, and avoid using soap.
Real soap interacts with the minerals in water to form soap scum, which will build up and make your shower door look dirty. If you can manage to do so, switch to a shower gel or body wash. These products do not interact with the minerals in water in the same way, so your doors will stay a lot cleaner.
It is possible to keep your glass shower doors looking clean, year after year. Just adhere to the guidelines above.
